How to use Protect PDF

  1. Choose the PDFs you want to protect.
  2. Enter and confirm an opening password, then optionally configure owner permissions.
  3. Download the AES-256 encrypted PDFs and keep your password safe.

  • Batch protection without uploading documents

Printing, copying, and editing permissions depend on PDF viewer enforcement. Paperlight cannot recover a forgotten password.

Useful details

Does PDF password protection prevent copying in every viewer?

An opening password uses AES-256 encryption. Optional owner permissions request restrictions on printing, copying and editing, but enforcement depends on the PDF viewer. They cannot prevent screenshots.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. Document processing happens in your browser. Files, passwords, signatures, and editing history are not uploaded or stored by Paperlight. The public site uses Vercel Web Analytics for page-view statistics.

What limits should I know about?

Printing, copying, and editing permissions depend on PDF viewer enforcement. Paperlight cannot recover a forgotten password. Jobs accept up to 100 MB of combined input and 500 pages, subject to additional image and memory limits.
